hungry

"How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth."
Psalm 119:103

A while back I purchased a copy of Jon Courson's Application Commentary on the Old Testament Volume 2: Psalm - Malachi. I wanted to study through the prophets and thought it would be beneficial to have a trusted teacher guide me through them. And it has been good. Right now I am in the book of Daniel and it has been fascinating reading through his prophetic visions with Jon Courson showing in detail how the various details have been fulfulled, as well as those that are waiting ultimate fulfillment.
Yet, in reading through the prophets under Jon Courson's guidance, I have come to realize that I have been missing something. What I have been missing is those times when God seems to be speaking directly to me... to my life. Times when verses stick in my head for days as I wrestle with them and often as I turn them into prayer. These are the times when verses often make it to this blog........ where I can look back and read through and remember and be reminded of lessons (hopefully) learned. Times when, as in the verse above, I have tasted and savored the words of God.
This is not saying that commentaries and teachers cannot be beneficial. They can be very beneficial and I have been blessed by what I have learned there. But I am seeing that they are a poor replacement for time spent in the word of God alone....... waiting on God..... listening to His voice....... tasting and seeing that the LORD is good.
